HankasalmiA village with a preaching house under the jurisdiction of the Rautalammi mother parish, established in 1799, when the first church was built here. Became a chapel parish in 1802 from parts of Rautalammi and Pieksämäki. Parts of Laukaa and Kangasniemi were added in 1860 and separated from Rautalammi and made a parish of its own. Got its first vicar in 1875,when the office of the chapel parish vicar was abolished. The Senate decreed in 1898 that a chapel parish vicar office be established in the parish.
